As the name implies, hurricane shutters are used as a hurricane-reducing measure to protect homes and buildings from damage caused by storms. Tornadoes, storms and hurricanes with strong winds can damage and destroy many buildings and houses. However, the use of proper hurricane closure construction can significantly reduce the damage.
These shutters are the best way to prevent the breaking of windows by flying objects entering during a storm or hurricane. These shutters are made of steel, aluminum and sometimes plywood, as this is a cheaper alternative to building these shutters compared to others. These shutters are usually fastened outside the homes with screws, hurricane clips or a rail system
Ideally, there are three types of hurricane shutters made of steel, aluminum and plywood. These are also referred to as panel systems. These panels must be fastened to the structure with screws and clips. These panels are stored in a simple location when not in use, and in certain homes storage areas are provided to store these shutters.
Another type of closure also includes hurricane coverings, which are new and are relatively low cost closure types. These shutters are tested and approved systems and consist of polypropylene fibers, polyamide fibers or laminated cast PVC. Advanced hurricane shutters are motorized and can be folded when not in use.
Some shutters are also accordion shutters made by interlocking vertical wings. This then slides horizontally into position on a track. These are operated by pulling each curtain towards the middle of the rail. Then the curtains are locked together and locked with a handle. A simple addition of hurricane shutters can thus help to protect the inhabitants of the houses and to live peacefully
